Don’t Let the Ghosts of the Past Spook Away Today’s Gifts

Halloween week is here — the kids are hyped on sugar, the pumpkins are glowing, and there’s a certain magic in the air. Costumes, cobwebs, and a parade of mini superheroes and ghosts fill the streets. It’s all fun and games… until you realize some of those ghosts are hanging out in your own head.

No, not the sheet-over-the-head kind. I’m talking about the ones whispering “remember when you messed that up?” or “you should’ve known better.”

The ghosts of past deals, past relationships, past decisions that you keep dragging around like emotional décor from 2017.

Let’s Get Real

Every successful woman I know (and yes, that includes you) has a few skeletons in the closet.

Maybe it’s that deal you lost that still stings. Maybe it’s the client who ghosted you after you went above and beyond.

Or maybe it’s that moment you didn’t speak up — in the office, in your relationship, or even with yourself — and you’ve been kicking yourself ever since.

Here’s the truth: those ghosts only have power if you keep feeding them.

You can’t change the past, but you can choose whether it gets a seat at today’s table.

Three Ways to Exorcise Your “Everyday Ghosts”

1. Stop Replaying the Horror Movie.
If you’ve been replaying your past mistake like it’s your favorite Netflix drama, it’s time to hit stop.

Ask yourself: What is this really trying to teach me? Because that’s the plot twist — your past isn’t here to haunt you; it’s here to help you evolve.

Pro tip: When that “ugh, I should’ve” thought pops up, add “but now I know better” at the end.  Instant energy shift.

2. Replace Judgment with Curiosity.

You can’t grow and beat yourself up at the same time.

Instead of saying, “I can’t believe I did that,” try, “Interesting. I wonder what version of me made that choice and what she needed then.”

That tiny reframe turns self-blame into self-awareness — and awareness is where freedom begins.

3. Create Your Next Chapter Scene.

Real estate pro or not, you know the power of a good renovation.

So, take inventory: what “haunted rooms” in your life need a remodel?

Maybe it’s your morning routine, your boundaries, or your belief about what’s possible for you next.

Write one small action you can take today to clear that space.

Example:

  • If your confidence took a hit after a deal gone wrong, commit to one win call today — reach out to a past client just to say hi.
  • If you’re still carrying guilt from missing a moment with your kids, plan a “yes” moment tonight — 15 minutes of undistracted play or conversation.
    Small actions cast big light.

Truth Talk:

We all have ghosts.

But your power lies in remembering: you’re not the haunted house — you’re the homeowner. You get to decide who stays, who goes, and what kind of energy fills the rooms of your life.

So this Halloween, when you see all those little ghosts running door to door looking for candy, smile — and remind yourself:

You don’t have to keep giving treats to the ghosts in your head.

Your Invitation

If you’ve been feeling like your own past is holding you back — whether it’s a missed opportunity, a tough season, or a mistake you just can’t shake — let’s talk.

No pressure, no judgment, just a real conversation about where you are and where you’d love to go next.

Sometimes all it takes is one brave conversation to realize the ghosts aren’t real after all.
