Let’s be honest — you’ve built quite the résumé.
You juggle a million things, you’re the person everyone relies on, and your calendar has more color coding than a pack of Skittles. You’ve got goals, you’ve got grit, and let’s face it — you don’t exactly sit still well.
But here’s a question most successful women quietly avoid: When was the last time you slowed down long enough to hear what your soul is wishing for?
Because underneath all that busy, your soul is still talking. It’s whispering through your longings — and grumbling through your discontents.
Most of us just got really good at tuning it out.
Longings and Discontents: The GPS of the Soul
In the transformational world, we say your longings and discontents are the two most reliable indicators of your next level.
They’re not random. They’re messages from the part of you that knows what you’re capable of becoming.
Your longings show up as those quiet nudges of “I wish…”
- I wish I had more energy in the morning instead of feeling like I’m running on caffeine fumes by 10 a.m.
- I wish I could travel again, not for work, but for fun — remember fun?
- I wish I could feel that spark in my marriage, or at least eat dinner without talking about the market report.
- I wish I had time to actually enjoy the life I’ve worked so hard to build.
Meanwhile, your discontents show up as the daily irritations that whisper, something’s off.
- The client you’ve outgrown but keep working with because it’s easier than saying no.
- The business you built that looks “successful” but doesn’t actually light you up anymore.
- The schedule that makes you feel more like an Uber driver than the CEO of your own life.
- The voice that says, “I should be grateful” — when what you really feel is drained, uninspired, or restless.
Those longings and discontents aren’t bad.
They’re not flaws.
They’re feedback — the soul’s way of saying, Hey, remember me? There’s more waiting for you.
Wishes Are Actually Wisdom
Somewhere along the way, we were told wishing was childish. That grown women don’t make wishes; they make to-do lists. But let me tell you — every major turning point in my life started with a wish.
A wish to feel more alive.
A wish to stop living by the clock and start living by design.
A wish to matter more than my inbox.
A wish is your soul daring to imagine something better before your brain figures out how.
So when you catch yourself saying “I wish…,” don’t shut it down. Lean in. That’s your intuition tapping you on the shoulder — before it has to hit you over the head with burnout or frustration.
Your Soul Isn’t Subtle — You Are Just Distracted
Think about how often we override our own truth:
- You get that gut feeling that says, Don’t take on this client. You do it anyway, and regret it by Wednesday.
- You know you need rest, but you say yes to one more meeting, one more showing, one more favor — because “you can handle it.”
- You’ve had that same dream of writing a book, launching a side business, or taking that trip — for, what, five years now?
And still, you tell yourself, Maybe next quarter.
You’ve mastered success by the world’s standards, but what about success by your soul’s definition?
What if your wishes aren’t indulgent at all — but intelligent?
What if they’re how your higher self steers you toward alignment before life has to throw you a curveball to get your attention?
Three Ways to Start Listening Again
- Get Quiet (Yes, Even You).
I know, silence is uncomfortable when your brain sounds like a real estate listing — “new thoughts just added, motivated seller!”
But try ten minutes a day without multitasking. Ask yourself:
What am I longing for right now?
Where do I feel discontent?
Don’t analyze it. Just notice. - Follow the Nudge.
When something feels heavy or “off,” pause before you bulldoze through it.
Ask: What wish might be hiding underneath this discontent?
Example: You’re irritated every morning getting ready for work. Maybe the wish isn’t for a new job — maybe it’s for more ease and flow before your day starts. That’s actionable. - Make One Small Move.
You don’t have to blow up your life or buy a cabin in the woods (tempting as that sounds some days).
Just one step that honors what you heard: make a phone call, schedule a walk, set a boundary, sign up for the class, take the nap.
Wishes don’t come true through magic — they come true through motion.
Remember: Wishes Aren’t Fluff — They’re Fuel
If you’ve stopped listening to your longings, that’s okay. Most women I coach have been “too busy being capable” to notice that their soul’s been patiently waiting for them to check back in.
But now’s the perfect time.
Not to hustle harder, but to tune in deeper.
Your soul is not asking you to burn it all down — it’s asking you to realign.
To remember that success doesn’t have to mean sacrifice.
And that the same woman who’s made everyone else’s dreams happen is more than capable of granting her own wishes, too.
